Stitch Fix Review!

What’s a Stitch Fix you ask? Stitch Fix is an online personal shopping site. You fill out an online style profile and a personal shopper picks out 5 items just for you. What does this have to do with photography? Well, nothing I suppose, other than the fact that it does contain images. I figured some of my readers may also be interested in fashion, or maybe you are like me and just really need help in that area!! So this post will not contain any adorable baby pictures, only awkward pictures of me, modeling clothes. Do I still have your attention? Haha!

If you have had a session with me, you will know that I dress for comfort. I am often in interesting positions, sometimes laying on the ground, bending, squatting, etc, so I usually wear yoga pants or shorts. Don’t expect this to change. 😉 However there are times when I feel it is appropriate to dress like an adult. My “style” includes putting on jeans (or shorts) and a shirt. The end. I don’t know how to build an actual wardrobe with “pieces” that I can mix and match. I rarely accessorize. I need help! I thought it would be fun to see what someone else would pick out for me! In all seriousness, I just had so much fun with this that I had to share it.

To get started you just fill out your style profile, which includes your measurements, tastes and price range. A personal stylist will review your profile and send you 5 items. You have 3 days to try them on with the items already in your closet. The styling fee is $20, but this goes towards any items that you keep. You keep what you want and put the rest in your mailbox in the included prepaid mailing envelope. If you keep all 5 items, you get a 25% discount! This usually results in getting at least one item free. After you get your fix, you can go online and leave feedback for you stylist so the next fix is even better!

I thought I would do a post to show you how this went for me, so here is my first Stitch Fix review! I scheduled my fix and it arrived in exactly one week. It was so fun to be totally surprised at what was in the box! This might be the most fun part. 🙂

Then there was a note from my stylist. You can create a pinterest board for them to get a better idea of your style. She mentioned in the note that she sent one of the exact items I had pinned!

One really neat thing is that they send you these style cards so you can get an idea of how to wear each piece. I love that I can try the items on with things I already own, instead of being in a store and wondering if I have something that will go with it.

Ok on to the goodies! I asked for shirts, a dress, and casual pants.

Clarice Multi Stripe Belted Fit and Flare Dress $78

One thing about this service is that they often send you things that you might not have picked out for yourself. This dress was one of those. I probably wouldn’t have even noticed this in a store. I would have thought it was bland and too structured looking. Most of my dresses are more flowey and colorful. However I tried it on and it fit PERFECTLY. The quality is excellent and it looked great on me. I love that it came with a belt, in a color I didn’t already have. Bonus accessory! And look at me trying to change the look with a cardigan. Verdict: KEPT!!

Kahlo Embroidered Racerback Tank $48
This was one of the exact items that I pinned to my Pinterest board. I love the stripes and the embroidery detail. It looked good with my hands pinning the excess fabric to my hips, but that’s it. Otherwise it looked like a tent on me. It might have been a size too big, but it just had a bunch of extra fabric and I wasn’t digging it. Plus I think $48 is too much for a tank. VERDICT: RETURNED

Serratoga Lace Trim Damask Print Tank – $58
I liked the colors on this shirt and the lace detail at the top. It was also a really nice material, but it was a little billowy for my frame and I wasn’t sure about the pattern. VERDICT: RETURNED

I just put these last 2 items together because it was raining and my husband has zero patience for taking pictures!

Melanie Lace Detail Button Down Blouse – $48
I liked the details on this shirt but the fabric was a little dressy. I wasn’t sure what I would wear it with. It came with a cami to wear under it and the cami was so soft! I almost kept it just for the cami. I just wasn’t sure. VERDICT: RETURNED

Siena Colored Cropped Capri Pants – $58

I love these pants! I have such a hard time finding pants that aren’t way too long, and no desire to have things altered. I asked for casual pants that weren’t jeans, and these work perfectly. I think they are supposed to be capri length but they are ankle length on me, which is fine. They will go with a lot of things I own. $58 wasn’t too bad considering I didn’t even have to leave my house to find them, and they fit perfectly. VERDICT: KEPT!

So I had fun with this and got a dress and pair of pants out of it. I was surprised at how well everything fit and it was all great quality. You don’t have to sign up for every month or anything with this service. You can request one fix at a time or sign up for monthly or every-other-month fixes. I personally signed up for once a month because my closet really needs to be updated! I can’t wait to see what comes next!

If you want to try out Stitch Fix for yourself, please use my link! I am not being paid by them to write this, but I do get a credit if someone signs up with my link, and then you will get your own link to pass on! Click HERE to check it out!

10 on 10 Monthly Blog Circle – The Woodlands Children’s Photographer

It’s that time again! I am sharing a few personal images again for this month’s 10 on 10 project. It was so hard to pick my favorites this time! Please be sure to check out the next photographer linked at the bottom to see more wonderful images!

This is the face he makes when he is in trouble. This time he was climbing and getting into the blinds and kept turning around to get back in them. When I get mad at him he does this. How can I not laugh?

This might be my favorite image. This one moment, 1/4000 of a second, captures perfectly this fun time they were having with water balloons. SISTERS.

My oldest has only been taking piano lessons for a couple months but she is picking it up pretty well. I love to hear her play.

I am not sure why I liked this one so much. I think she just looks so young and innocent with her tutu suit and pigtails.

One of the few toys he likes right now. He isn’t into toys much, only getting into things he shouldn’t be.

She can stay awake for hours, and I mean HOURS, looking at books. She is a night owl like me and takes a long time to wind down.

My mom had my girls for the weekend so we ventured out to eat at a restaurant with our 16 month old. I misjudged how nice it was before taking him in there, breaking rule #1 about toddlers and restaurants (go somewhere that’s already LOUD), but he kept busy most of the time by blowing bubbles in his milk and flirting with people at the table behind us. Lucky for us he is as cute as he thinks he is.

This is a much moodier image than I would normally take, and I took a lot of light and bright ones too, but I love the detail in his profile and the water droplets on his chest. I love this big sink!

They fight just like any sisters, but I love peeking in on them having a good moment.

10 on 10 Monthly Blog Circle – Houston Children’s Photographer

I have been fortunate to be a part of a great group of fellow photographers in the area that are participating in a monthly blog circle. I will post 10 images on the 10th of the month and link to the next person, and so on, so please click on the next person’s link at the end to see more wonderful photos! I have been working on my neglected blog lately and one thing I noticed was that I don’t really post anything personal, so I decided to use all lifestyle images for my 10 on 10 post. This is an area of photography that I have already been working on this year.

We moved to a new home about a month ago and my girls each have their own room now.  My oldest stole my ipad and was enjoying some time to herself.

My 4 year old laying under the sprinkler and a wet towel and complaining that she was cold! We spent some time at the neighborhood pool and then in the sprinklers on the 4th of July.

Fireworks on the 4th of July and my son already trying to fill daddy’s shoes.

Shooting her sister in the face with a water animal.

He used to be such a momma’s boy but he is quickly becoming daddy’s buddy.
Cupcakes. The way to this girl’s heart. They made them with their grammy one weekend.

They were having a fashion show on the stairs, all to the tune of “Call Me Maybe.”

I wasn’t trying to pose him like a newborn (although the thought has crossed my mind)! He was tired and laid down on the blanket himself. I am trying to hold on to any babyhood he has left so he still drinks from a bottle and takes a pacifier and I don’t even care. He is usually at least half naked and is either climbing, getting into something, making a mess or wanting to be held 24/7. He is spoiled rotten! I know I need to do something about all of this. Someday. 🙂

I hope you enjoy this interruption of my normal blogging format, we will now return to your regularly scheduled program! Please continue the circle and visit Eliz Alex Photography HERE!
