What’s a Stitch Fix you ask? Stitch Fix is an online personal shopping site. You fill out an online style profile and a personal shopper picks out 5 items just for you. What does this have to do with photography? Well, nothing I suppose, other than the fact that it does contain images. I figured some of my readers may also be interested in fashion, or maybe you are like me and just really need help in that area!! So this post will not contain any adorable baby pictures, only awkward pictures of me, modeling clothes. Do I still have your attention? Haha!
If you have had a session with me, you will know that I dress for comfort. I am often in interesting positions, sometimes laying on the ground, bending, squatting, etc, so I usually wear yoga pants or shorts. Don’t expect this to change. 😉 However there are times when I feel it is appropriate to dress like an adult. My “style” includes putting on jeans (or shorts) and a shirt. The end. I don’t know how to build an actual wardrobe with “pieces” that I can mix and match. I rarely accessorize. I need help! I thought it would be fun to see what someone else would pick out for me! In all seriousness, I just had so much fun with this that I had to share it.
To get started you just fill out your style profile, which includes your measurements, tastes and price range. A personal stylist will review your profile and send you 5 items. You have 3 days to try them on with the items already in your closet. The styling fee is $20, but this goes towards any items that you keep. You keep what you want and put the rest in your mailbox in the included prepaid mailing envelope. If you keep all 5 items, you get a 25% discount! This usually results in getting at least one item free. After you get your fix, you can go online and leave feedback for you stylist so the next fix is even better!
I thought I would do a post to show you how this went for me, so here is my first Stitch Fix review! I scheduled my fix and it arrived in exactly one week. It was so fun to be totally surprised at what was in the box! This might be the most fun part. 🙂
Then there was a note from my stylist. You can create a pinterest board for them to get a better idea of your style. She mentioned in the note that she sent one of the exact items I had pinned!
One really neat thing is that they send you these style cards so you can get an idea of how to wear each piece. I love that I can try the items on with things I already own, instead of being in a store and wondering if I have something that will go with it.
Ok on to the goodies! I asked for shirts, a dress, and casual pants.
Clarice Multi Stripe Belted Fit and Flare Dress $78
One thing about this service is that they often send you things that you might not have picked out for yourself. This dress was one of those. I probably wouldn’t have even noticed this in a store. I would have thought it was bland and too structured looking. Most of my dresses are more flowey and colorful. However I tried it on and it fit PERFECTLY. The quality is excellent and it looked great on me. I love that it came with a belt, in a color I didn’t already have. Bonus accessory! And look at me trying to change the look with a cardigan. Verdict: KEPT!!
Kahlo Embroidered Racerback Tank $48
This was one of the exact items that I pinned to my Pinterest board. I love the stripes and the embroidery detail. It looked good with my hands pinning the excess fabric to my hips, but that’s it. Otherwise it looked like a tent on me. It might have been a size too big, but it just had a bunch of extra fabric and I wasn’t digging it. Plus I think $48 is too much for a tank. VERDICT: RETURNED
Serratoga Lace Trim Damask Print Tank – $58
I liked the colors on this shirt and the lace detail at the top. It was also a really nice material, but it was a little billowy for my frame and I wasn’t sure about the pattern. VERDICT: RETURNED
Melanie Lace Detail Button Down Blouse – $48
I liked the details on this shirt but the fabric was a little dressy. I wasn’t sure what I would wear it with. It came with a cami to wear under it and the cami was so soft! I almost kept it just for the cami. I just wasn’t sure. VERDICT: RETURNED
Siena Colored Cropped Capri Pants – $58
I love these pants! I have such a hard time finding pants that aren’t way too long, and no desire to have things altered. I asked for casual pants that weren’t jeans, and these work perfectly. I think they are supposed to be capri length but they are ankle length on me, which is fine. They will go with a lot of things I own. $58 wasn’t too bad considering I didn’t even have to leave my house to find them, and they fit perfectly. VERDICT: KEPT!
So I had fun with this and got a dress and pair of pants out of it. I was surprised at how well everything fit and it was all great quality. You don’t have to sign up for every month or anything with this service. You can request one fix at a time or sign up for monthly or every-other-month fixes. I personally signed up for once a month because my closet really needs to be updated! I can’t wait to see what comes next!
